Here's Our
Story:
It all started
with a picky little girl named Morgan. The winter cold was on its way
and Morgan needed a warm hat. This little picky girl wanted something
warm, but it had to be pink. We set out to find that special pink hat.
We searched & searched, but just could not find anything that would
keep her warm enough - that was pink. We gave up and insisted that she
wear a "regular" hat even if she thought it was a "boy"
color. So we started with a nice hat that would cover her face, but the
hole for her eyes was so large that her entire face was exposed. It really
defeated the purpose of the hat. Maybe I should back up the story a little
at this point. I am what one would call a "cautious" mom. Some
would say paranoid, but either way, I have an inner fear of scarves. I
have know people with kids who got thier scarves caught up in something
on the playground and had a very scary experience. I figured that if I
could find a hat that would cover the neck then I would not need a scarf
-- therefore, eliminating the "scarf fear"!
Now, back to the search. We
really needed something that would cover the nose & mouth area. We
actually found something close to what we wanted, but it just was not
soft enough for Morgan to have on her face. So now between the hole being
too large or the fabric being to rough, we stopped looking. Enough is
enough already! Forget it! I will just make my own hat that will fit our
needs. Here's the problem - I can't sew! At this point I turned to my
sister, who sews for a living. I figure she ought to know what to do.
So with my daughter there to tell me what she wants, and my sister to
make it -- we did it! It took some time and a few mistakes, but in the
end we have come up with the perfect pattern for the perfect hat/face
warmer. My daughter loves it and will wear it without me fighting her.
She loves it because now she doesn't even need to have a scarf. This hat
does it all! It all started with a picky little girl - Morgan. We are
hoping that this will help all of you & your kids with your frustrations
of winter - well, at least some of them!
